Maximizing patient safety and minimizing harms.

Caring for People Who Are Detained: Zine

An educational tool for frontline workers to engage with abolitionist practices in healthcare. The learning presented here is the labour of the authors to develop critical patient-centred practices, the wisdom and insights shared from mentors, and the lived experience of those interacting with healthcare while in custody or detention.

Further Resources

We are grateful for the ongoing work of folks, both in and outside of healthcare, who are doing the important labour of developing an abolitionist framework and approach to healthcare. We have compiled a list of our favourite resources for learning about police and prison abolition, advocating for marginalized communities, and creating a healthier empowered society.

“Abolition is a movement to end systemic violence… In other words, the goal is to change how we interact with each other and the planet by putting people before profits, welfare before warfare, and life over death.”

— Ruth Wilson Gilmore
